Kurinuki Workshop
Join us for a hands-on Make It Your Own Workshop and explore the art of Kurinuki—a traditional Japanese pottery technique! In this 2-hour class, you'll create a one-of-a-kind ceramic piece by carving out a solid block of clay. This meditative and sculptural hand-building method celebrates spontaneity, texture, and the beauty of imperfection.
Whether you're new to ceramics or looking to deepen your practice, this workshop is a unique opportunity to connect with clay in a fresh and meaningful way. All materials, including about 1.5 lbs of clay and a variety of carving tools, will be provided.
We’ll start with a brief demo introducing the history and techniques of Kurinuki, then you’ll have the rest of the class to carve your own vessel—be it a tea bowl, jar, candleholder, or something totally unexpected—with guidance and support from our instructors throughout.
After shaping your piece, you’ll have the option to add surface decoration using underglaze or select from our glaze options for a final finish. We’ll handle the firing process, and your finished work will be ready for pickup in approximately 4–6 weeks.
This workshop runs from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Please arrive 10 minutes early to get settled before we begin. Space is limited to 22 participants—reserve your spot now and experience the raw beauty of Kurinuki carving!
We can't wait to see what you create in this relaxed and inspiring ceramics session.
