One- time Hand Building Workshops
All workshops will take place in Asch Building at 825 Studewood St, Houston TX.
These are one time hand-building workshops- perfect for beginners as a first introduction to the art of ceramics! All ages are welcome. (Hand building workshops will not be using the pottery wheel- If you want to take a wheel throwing class, find them on our ‘Classes’ page!)
All materials are included. Workshops will always start with a short demo of building techniques that can be used to create your piece. After the demo you are free to start building your piece with guidance from our instructors. After constructing your piece you may decorate it yourself with underglaze or pick out a solid glaze color.
All finished pieces will be fired in the kiln by us and ready for pick up roughly 6-8 weeks after the date of your class.
*When attending a workshop, please plan to arrive ten minutes early to allow time to get settled in before your class starts!
Multi-day Workshops
Make a ceramic lamp workshop

In this three-day hand building workshop you will learn how to create your own ceramic lamp base! Coil building and slab building techniques will be covered in class, so you can choose how you would like to create your piece.
This class will be taught by our wonderful hand building instructors Heather and Xyla.
This class requires a basic understanding of working with clay. If you’ve worked with clay before and are comfortable with the basics- like slip & scoring, rolling out a slab, and making a coil, you’re good to go!
Not sure if your experience is enough? Feel free to give us a call and we are happy to help you figure out if this class is a good fit. And don’t worry- you definitely don’t need to know how to do everything already. The whole point of the workshop is to learn!
Thursday, October 15th 6-9pm
First making day. The first day of this workshop will begin with demonstrations from Heather and Xyla of different building techniques that may be utilized in making your lamp base.
Thursday, October 22nd 6-9pm
Making day number 2. Use this day to continue to build, refine your piece, and add decorative elements.
Thursday, November 12th 6-9pm
Glazing day. Return to the studio after your pieces has been slowly dried, bisque fired, and it ready to be glazed. This day will begin with demonstrations of different glazing techniques to give you ideas of how to complete your lamp!
Roughly 2 weeks after the last workshop day your finished piece will be ready to pick up!
Included in this workshop is the hardware needed to make your ceramic piece into a functional lamp: A push through socket, 8 ft chord, 9'“-11” adjustable harp, and assembly instructions! This excludes the lampshade and light bulb. You will be responsible for assembling your finished lamp after picking it up from the studio.
